Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS YOUR TAIL MADE OUT OF?
My tail is made from Dragon Skin Silicone and is safe work work around marine life, and in all different water conditions. It was made by The Mertailor--who is one of the leading FX artists in the industry. My tail is appropriate for both open water work, and smaller tanks. For more information on the Mertailor, please click HERE

CAN YOU SWIM IN YOUR TAIL?
Yes! My tail is designed for use in the water. There is a custom monofin that propels me through the water, while maintaining a realistic "fishy" look!

CAN MERMAIDS BREATHE UNDERWATER?
No. Mermaids are a member of the cetacean family. They are closer to dolphins and whales than fish. They are an air-breathing mammal. However, we can hold our breath for a very long time.

HOW DO MERMAIDS TALK?
Because Katey Mermaid spends so much time among humans, she has learned to speak English when on land. However, mermaids communicate with a series of clicks and whistles to talk to each other and other animals when underwater

I DON'T HAVE A POOL OR TANK. CAN MERMAID KATEY COME TO MY EVENT?
Yes! Katey Mermaid is available for a wide variety of events, wet or dry! Please click on the SERVICES link above for more information.

MY SON/DAUGHTER LOVES MERFOLK. WHERE CAN I BUY HIM/HER A TAIL?
Many tail makers provide SAFE start tails for guppies! Katey Mermaid endorses Mertailor tails for children over the age of 10. To order a child-appropriate tail, please click HERE

Many parents are interested in purchasing mermaid tails for their child. It is the official stance of Katey Mermaid, that most younger children are not strong enough nor have the skill to safely use a monofin with a tail. Tail swimming is an inherently dangerous activity.  Because of this, Katey Mermaid cannot provide support for purchasing your child a tail, not will she support of endorse the idea of putting a young child in a tail. All tail swimming should be done under the close supervision of a parent and lifeguard. If you are interested in purchasing a tail for your child and want them to learn how to use a tail safely, please contact Katey Mermaid. Katey Mermaid will discuss individual situations regarding private mermaid lessons.
