Katey Mermaid, Ohio's First Mermaid, discovered her fins in 2009. Making her first tail out of spandex, a finis monofin and a little bit of creativity, she quickly became a natural in the water. Katey has always had a love for the ocean, and all the creatures in it. However, she was never much of a swimmer until she discovered the world of mermaiding. In 2011, she purchased a neoprene tail from ShellTail Labs. In the summer of 2014, she finally upgraded to a full silicone tail from the Mertailor, Eric Ducharme. Although she has evolved over the years, her love of performing has always persisted. Her current tails are also products of the Mertailor. Katey Mermaid holds several certifications including: SDI Open Water SCUBA diver (2012), FII freediving level 1 (2016) and Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (2016), Lifeguarding and CPR. She is working on obtaining her Advanced Open Water scuba certification. All of Katey Mermaid's accessories, including her tail, are safe for aquarium work and marine life. Katey Mermaid is located in Central Ohio, but is able to travel anywhere in the United States and Eastern Canada.
